A number of years bottle maturation, while reducing the primary fruit characteristics, has allowed greater complexity to emerge with a multi- layered palate consisting mostly of ripe dark fruit with earthy undertones. Tobacco leaf features as well with the flavours well integrated and offering roundness and softness on the back-palate. The flavour lingers gently and is a natural companion to most beef dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2001 Shiraz has an elegant structure displaying intense berry aromas with white pepper notes on the nose, reflecting the Wrattonbully component’s contribution. This is complemented by an earthy richness on the palate, typically characteristic of Hunter Valley Shiraz. Dark plum and raspberry characters abound in a wine that is ideal for most types of food dishes. Its softness and round fruit suggest this wine is bottled for your immediate enjoyment.

Bottle maturation has allowed this wine to further develop complex flavours and aromas. The wine shows rich earthy notes with underlying cassis and coffee bean. These characters flow through the palate and combine wonderfully with ripe plums and blackberries. The wine has enormous length with the lingering flavours balanced with the softer and finer tannins.
The wine has developed to offer a superb example of a blend of the ‘Classic’ Bordeaux varieties. It can be enjoyed now with many different types of food.
